Aethir Node Setup: How to Earn with ATH
How to set up an Aethir node. Checker nodes, Edge devices, and Cloud Host GPU providers. Requirements, costs, realistic earnings, and why the numbers matter more than the marketing.
What Aethir offers
Aethir is an enterprise GPUGPUGraphics Processing Unit. Originally designed to render video game graphics, GPUs turned out to be exceptionally good at the massively parallel math that AI models need. Modern AI training and inference runs almost entirely on GPUs.Like a factory with 10,000 workers doing the same simple task in parallel, versus a CPU which is more like 10 workers each doing different complex tasks. AI training involves doing simple math a million times per second on a million numbers, which is exactly what the GPU factory is designed for.GPU in the glossary → compute network for AI and cloud gaming. It claims over $166 million in annual recurring revenue and 150+ enterprise clients. The service fees behind that claim are on-chain, and our own index of Aethir’s fee contract tells a smaller story: $78.7 million of gross fees over the trailing year, with the monthly figure down from $12.5 million in September 2025 to $3 million in the latest full month. That gap matters for everything that follows.
There are three ways to participate in the network. Each has sharply different economics, barriers to entry and risk profiles. For the full project assessment, see our Aethir review.
The three node types
| Node type | What it does | Capital required | Technical skill | Realistic earnings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Checker | Verifies Container liveness and quality | Secondary market NFTNFTNon-Fungible Token. A unique blockchain-tracked asset where each token is distinguishable from every other. Where regular tokens are interchangeable, NFTs represent unique items like art, collectibles, in-game assets, or domain names.Like the difference between a $20 note and a signed first-edition novel. The notes are interchangeable, any $20 buys the same thing as any other. The book is one of a kind, and its value depends entirely on which specific book it is.NFT in the glossary → price | Beginner | Low, declining |
| Edge | Contributes light compute via dedicated device | ~$999-1,399 + an ATHATHAll-Time High. The highest price a token has ever reached. ATH is usually quoted as a reference point for how far the current price has fallen (or risen) since the peak.Like the record lap time on a racetrack. It tells you what the car has been capable of at its absolute best, not what it will do today. Whether that record gets broken again depends on conditions that may or may not come back.ATH in the glossary → collateral stake | Beginner | Negligible at current prices |
| Cloud Host | Provides enterprise GPUs (H100, H200, A100) | $200K+ in hardware | Advanced | Potentially profitable |
A fourth role, Indexer, matches client requests with Containers, but Aethir operates these centrally. You cannot run one.
Checker node setup
Checker nodes verify that GPU Containers are online, performing, and delivering quality compute. They are the lightest way to participate.
Requirements
This is not demanding hardware:
- 64 MB RAM
- x86 CPU at 2.1 GHz
- 10 GB disk space
- 10 Mbps internet
- You can run up to 100 licences on a single machine
Getting a licence
The primary sale (March 2024) sold out. 66,000+ licences to 20,000+ buyers across 53 pricing tiers, starting at ~$500. Roughly $75-92 million raised.
Licences became transferable in July 2025 and trade as NFTs on secondary markets (Arbitrum). Check OpenSea or Blur for current floor prices.
A buybackBuybackUsing protocol revenue to purchase tokens on the open market, usually to burn them or return them to a treasury. Buybacks convert business income into upward pressure on the token by reducing circulating supply.Like a public company using profits to repurchase and retire its own shares. The cash leaves the company's balance sheet, the share count drops, and every remaining shareholder owns a slightly bigger slice of the same business.Buyback in the glossary → programme launched May 2025 at checkerbb.aethir.com. Reports indicate 37% of holders sold back, dropping active holders from ~20,000 to ~8,000. That consolidation is a centralisation concern.
Setup steps (Linux CLI)
# Download installer from app.aethir.com or GitHub
# github.com/AethirApp/checker-client
cd <unzipped-directory>
sudo ./install.sh
sudo ./AethirCheckerCLI
aethir version
# Import wallet and approve licence via CLI
Cannot run multiple CLI instances on one machine. Windows GUI is also available. Download from app.aethir.com, install, connect walletWalletSoftware that stores the private keys needed to control tokens on a blockchain. A wallet does not actually hold any tokens. The tokens live on the chain. The wallet holds the keys that prove you own them.Like the key to a safe deposit box. The key doesn't contain your valuables. The valuables sit in the bank's vault. The key is what proves you're allowed to open the box and take them.Wallet in the glossary →, approve licence.
Checker earnings: the honest numbers
15% of total ATH supply (6.3 billion ATH) is allocated to checkers over 4 years: 10% base + 5% bonus.
- Base rewards: Daily, proportional to tasks completed versus network total
- Bonus rewards: Quarterly, requires over 95% uptime for the entire quarter
- Withdrawal vestingVestingA schedule that locks up tokens allocated to insiders, investors, and team members, releasing them gradually over months or years. Vesting prevents insiders from dumping on public buyers immediately after launch.Like a new employee's stock options at a startup. You don't get all the shares on day one. They unlock over four years so you stick around and do the work rather than cashing out and leaving.Vesting in the glossary →: 180 days as standard (raised from 120 days in October 2024), OR 30-day accelerated vesting at a 75% penalty (you keep only 25%). Each claim also carries a 5 ATH platform fee.
Aethir does not publish per-node daily figures. Community reports vary significantly and are often outdated. At current ATH price (~$0.006), any per-node daily reward measured in hundreds of ATH translates to cents, not dollars.
Checker risks
- Ban penalties are graduated: 2 errors per week = 1-month ban. 5 per month = 6-month ban. 10 cumulative = permanent ban.
- Uptime inheritance: If you buy a licence on secondary market, the previous owner’s poor uptime record carries forward. Check before buying.
- US restriction: American residents cannot claim rewards or withdraw earnings. Licences can be purchased but not monetised from the US.
Aethir Edge setup
The Edge is a dedicated hardware device that contributes light compute to the network. Plug it in and it runs.
The device
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM
- 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage
- Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 1 Gbps LAN
- Power draw: 18-22W while miningProof of WorkThe original blockchain consensus mechanism where miners compete to solve computationally expensive puzzles. The winner proposes the next block and earns the rewards. Proof of Work secures Bitcoin and most pre-2020 chains.Like a lottery that runs every 10 minutes where the tickets cost electricity. Whoever spends the most electricity buying lottery tickets has the best chance of winning that round's prize. Nobody can fake the result because the proof of their work is verifiable by everyone.Proof of Work in the glossary →
Setup
- Purchase device: $999 (waitlist discount) to $1,399 (retail)
- Stake ATH in the Edge app to activate the device. Edge’s docs say the stakeStakingLocking up a cryptocurrency to help secure a blockchain network, usually in exchange for rewards. The locked tokens act as a security deposit that can be taken away if the staker misbehaves.Like putting down a large rental deposit for an apartment. You get the money back if you behave, you earn interest while it's locked, and the landlord takes it if you trash the place.Staking in the glossary → is required but don’t publish the amount, so check it in the app before you buy
- Connect to power and ethernet or Wi-Fi
- Device auto-configures and starts earning
That is genuinely the entire setup. No Linux, no Docker, no CLI. Plug it in.
Edge earnings: the honest numbers
23% of total ATH supply (~9.66 billion ATH) is allocated to Edge devices over 10 years.
The reward schedule has moved around:
- Launch (2024): 20 ATH/day per device
- Promotional period (Nov 2024 - Jun 2025): ~100 ATH/day
- Tokenomics v1.0, reaffirmed (October 2025): 20 ATH/day per device. Aethir had announced a stake-tiered Tokenomics 2.0, then kept v1.0 as “the official, ongoing model for Edge device rewards”.
At an ATH price of about $0.006 (September 2026):
- 20 ATH/day = approximately $0.12/day = ~$3.60/month
- A $999 device at $3.60/month takes roughly 23 years to break even
To be clear: at current tokenTokenA digital unit of value or access rights tracked on a blockchain. Tokens can represent ownership in a project, a right to use a service, a share of future revenue, or simply a tradable asset with no underlying claim.Like a physical poker chip a casino issues. The chip itself has no value. What makes it worth something is what it lets you do at the casino, what the casino has promised, and how much other people will pay you for it.Token in the glossary → prices, the Aethir Edge is not an investment that generates returns from compute earnings. It is a speculative bet that ATH will appreciate significantly. If ATH returns to $0.05 (still 58% below its all-time high), daily earnings become ~$1.00 and break-even drops to under 3 years. At its ATH of $0.1185, break-even becomes a little over a year.
The device is well-built hardware. The economics at current prices are not viable as income.
Cloud Host (enterprise)
This is the serious end. Cloud Hosts provide enterprise-grade GPUs to Aethir’s network for AI trainingTrainingThe one-time process of teaching a neural network to perform a task by showing it massive amounts of example data and adjusting its internal weights until the outputs are good. Training builds the model; inference uses it.Like the years an apprentice spends learning a trade. You don't see any of the actual work, just thousands of repeated mistakes gradually becoming competence. By the end, the apprentice can do the job. The training was invisible, but the skill is now permanent.Training in the glossary →, inferenceInferenceRunning a trained AI model to produce an answer. Inference is what happens when you type a prompt into ChatGPT and get a response. The model takes your input, computes a best guess, and returns it.Like asking an expert for their opinion. The training was the decades they spent becoming an expert. The inference is the 30 seconds it takes them to answer your specific question.Inference in the glossary → and game rendering.
Requirements
- Enterprise GPUs (H100, H200, A100, B200, GB200) on bare-metal x86 servers, all GPUs in a server the same model
- Enterprise-grade connectivity and cooling
- Formal business entity
- KYC verification
- ATH stake per GPU, set by a K-Value table Aethir publishes and updates monthly, with a 180-day wait to withdraw after unstaking
- Apply via Aethir’s Cloud Host portal
An H100 costs $25,000-40,000. An eight-GPU server, the usual enterprise configuration, is $200,000-320,000 before infrastructure costs.
Cloud Host economics
Aethir publishes these figures for an H100:
- Hourly rate: $1.25 (host receives 80% = $1.00/hour)
- At 95% utilisation: ~$684/month revenue per GPU
- Estimated costs: ~$325/month (power, financing, maintenance)
- Estimated margin: ~$359/month per GPU
Those numbers assume 95% utilisation. Whether hosts consistently achieve that is unverified. Aethir’s marketing figures and real-world performance may diverge.
Cloud Hosts earn through two streams: ATH token rewards (Proof of Capacity and Proof of Delivery) plus 80% of service fees from enterprise customers. The other 20% goes to Aethir’s treasury.
ATH token overview
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Price | ~$0.006 (September 2026) |
| Market cap | ~$110M (September 2026) |
| Circulating supplyCirculating SupplyThe number of tokens currently in circulation and tradeable on the open market. Differs from total supply (which includes locked or unvested tokens) and max supply (the upper limit, if there is one).Like the number of cars on the road today versus the number ever produced. Some are in showrooms, some in junkyards, some still at the factory. Only the ones on the road count toward what people are actually driving.Circulating Supply in the glossary → | 20.1B ATH |
| Total supply | 42B ATH |
| All-time high | $0.1185 (down ~95%) |
Critical risk: token unlocks. Just over half of total supply remains outside circulation (47.9% circulates), releasing through 2028 primarily via Checker and Compute Provider allocations. That supply reaches the market month by month, and its dollar weight scales with any price increase. The token distribution allocates 50% to compute providers, 15% to ecosystem, 12.5% to team, 11.5% to investors, 6% to airdropAirdropDistributing tokens for free to eligible wallets, usually to reward early users, bootstrap a community, or decentralise token ownership away from a small group of insiders at launch.Like a supermarket handing out free samples to people who already shop there. The samples cost the supermarket nothing to print. The goal is to convert casual shoppers into loyal customers by giving them something tangible to talk about.Airdrop in the glossary →, 5% to advisors.
Staking options
- AI Pool and Gaming Pool: Earn ATH plus partner tokens. Lock periods up to 4 years. 30-day withdrawal vesting.
- EigenLayer ATH Vault: Closed to new deposits on 24 June 2026, when eATH redemption opened (15-day unbonding). Aethir set eligible pre-depositors’ reward at about 7.5%, claimable for 90 days.
- Withdrawal blocked if pool utilisation exceeds 85%.
Jurisdiction restrictions
US, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk are fully restricted. KYC is mandatory for reward claims and withdrawals. If you are a US resident, you cannot monetise any Aethir node type.
My assessment
Aethir has the best revenue story in DeAIDeAIDecentralised AI. An umbrella term for blockchain-based projects that build AI infrastructure (compute, data, inference, models, agents) without a single central provider controlling the system.Like the difference between streaming a movie from Netflix and sharing it via BitTorrent. Netflix is fast and polished but one company controls what you can watch and what you pay. BitTorrent is messier but no single operator can shut you out.DeAI in the glossary → (over $166 million ARR claimed) attached to the worst decentralisation credentials. The Indexers are centralised. Cloud Host onboarding is gatekept. The gross fees reconcile on-chain, but the dollar run-rate has fallen well below the headline.
For someone looking to participate:
- Checker nodes are cheap to run but earnings are low and declining. The 37% buyback exodus is a warning sign.
- Edge devices are a speculative bet on ATH price, not a compute business at current prices. Only buy one if you believe ATH will 5-10x and you are comfortable waiting.
- Cloud Hosting is a real GPU business with potentially viable economics, but requires enterprise-scale capital and the willingness to trust Aethir’s utilisation claims.
I do not hold ATH. The centralisation concerns and the massive unlock schedule keep me on the sideline. But I watch the revenue numbers. If the dollar run-rate turns back up towards the headline, Aethir becomes a different conversation entirely.
